Which is more beneficial, an AA in Health Information Technology or a diploma/certificate?

This is a question that I am often asked by xray tech students, PA’s, HIT students and basically anyone actually trying to get a career in the technical medical field. Which would theybenefit most from…an associates degree in health information technology OR a diploma/certificate from a vocational class/school?  What do you think?

I’d say having an associate’s in that specific concentration wouldn’t hurt, however, taking it at a college or at a hospital should be fairly equal as far as what your salary would be when you finish.

You get better training in a hospital-based program. The pay is the same. You might get a little more with a BS, but it isn’t necessary unless you want to go into management.
